[Discipleship Application Letter – Brian Chung – Sydney Australia 2017.09.02]

Dear Master Chen,

Thank you for teaching Chen Style Taijiquan Practical Method so clearly and openly.

Through your teachings, workshops and your physical transmission;

I have seen new things I had not seen before.
I have heard new things I had not heard before.
I have touched new things I had not touched before.

I would like to continue to go deeper. To learn, to practice and to promote Practical Method. That is why I would like to apply to become a disciple.

I first came across your material online. I was always interested in martial arts, but I never looked at Taiji. I did not understand it. Yet somehow, watching your videos, there was something there. I just had to keep looking. One day by chance, I decided to purchase your Finland workshop video from 2010. It was a revelation. The entire pursuit of Taiji was revealed in clear language, in a matter of a few minutes. I felt as if a clear beam of shining light had been revealed. This was what I wanted to do.

I began practising Foundations. I attended Paul Janssen’s classes, to whom I am very grateful to. I attended your Sydney workshops and I visited Daqingshan.

Since I first met you in November 2015, I have completed over 15,000 Foundations and 3700 Yilu’s. I now realise how difficult it is to do just one thing right. Even so, I will continue to walk down this path.

I am not the biggest, the strongest, the fastest, nor am I the smartest person. What I will do is;
To follow the rules.
To persist.
To continue through difficulties.
And not to deviate.
And in saying these things, realising that they are, humanly, next to impossible to do.

So I will simply take it one day at a time. Day by day. Step by step. Yilu by Yilu.
