Kaiser is my 13 year old student that has been learning Practical Method from me since he was 10 years old. He has attended 2 of the North American Practical Method Training Camps.
This is my first time seeing him in person since March due to COVID. He stayed consistent with foundations.

I am John Upshaw from Cedar Falls, Iowa. I have a Masters of Social Work degree and I'm a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor. I have taught as an Adjunct professor at the University of Northern Iowa. For the past two years I've been involved with the pilot research study examining the effects of Taijiquan with females that have experienced trauma. My greatest work accomplishment is starting a therapy group that combines Practical Method and Adlerian Play Therapy for the past 9 years, which was encouraged by Tim Duehring.
I live in a 100 year old restore farm house with my wife , 15 year old daughter and 12 year old daughter. I have a 27 year old daughter that is engaged to be married that lives halfway between where I live and Levi's house.
I started learning practical method in 2005. I first met Shifu in 2007. I became a disciple in 2012. Practical Method Taijiquan is an integral part of my every day life. The people I have learned from, trained with and taught have become very much like family.
